NEW: Free Translation Hosting For Your Website

We are pleased to announce the availability of a new and easy to use translation service for websites. With it, you can make your website multilingual, using machine translation, translations submitted by your readers, and optional professional translation.

Simply go to www.worldwidelexicon.org, complete the short registration form on the home page, and then follow the instructions to create subdomains for your website (such as fr.yoursite.com for French). There is no software to install, and the basic service with machine translation and community edited translations is free.

Coming Soon : Full Text Search For Translations

We are currently in the process of indexing our archive of human edited translations to offer full text search of the WWL translation memory. You can experiment with the new service at www.worldwidelexicon.org/f With this web API, you can search for translations using a keyword or phrase. New translations are indexed immediately for search, while older translations are being incorporated into the translation index over the next several days. Enjoy the new service. -Brian

New Translation API Features

This weekend we are releasing two new features for our translation API. These services extend the current WWL API and make it easy for you to view the revision history for a translation, and also to request a batch of all human translations submitted for a specific web page.

Translation Proxy Server In Beta

We are pleased to announce that we have released a test version of our Translation Proxy Server. This utility enables you to make any website translatable. You simply create an address, such as fr.yoursite.com (for French), and then map it in DNS (domain name system) to the translation server. Then, when you open a page at fr.yoursite.com, you see it translated into French.

The proxy server is open source, and is written in PHP, so you can install it on your own systems (or use ours), and can customize it as needed. We will post links to several demonstration websites that are using it soon.

New Website And Documentation

We have updated our website with a new design and more documentation for WWL tools. You can now find everything in one place, from our Firefox translator to our TransKit libraries for professional software developers. In a few weeks, we will be publishing an online manual (available as an ebook) with comprehensive instructions about how to install and use all of these tools. Thanks for visiting. -Brian

WWL Source Code Repository

We have set up a source code repository for most of the WWL modules at code.google.com/p/worldwidelexicon

You can find the current source code for the following projects here (with more to come):

  • Firefox Translator Addon (Version 1.01)
  • TransKit Library For PHP
  • TransKit Library For Python
  • WWL For WordPress
  • WWL For Drupal
  • WWL Translation Server (App Engine Edition)

We will be posting the source for the translation proxy server early next week, and will be releasing additional TransKit SDKs in the near future (C, Java, and Ruby coming soon). If you would like to contribute code to the project, contact bsmcconnell at gmail for more information.
